New Ventures Presented at Crowdbacker
The Year Here team shares their insights on Crowdbacker:
Crowdbacker is the culmination of a tough ten-month journey for our Fellows at Year Here. Along the way, Fellows have put their resilience, compassion, ingenuity and understanding to the test: spending time in frontline services across London, responding to social innovation consulting project briefs, and finally, testing and building their own social enterprise.
Five fledgling ventures – bloom six, Lemonade, EVERYBODY, Plastic Shed and Split Banana – joined our compère for the evening, TV presenter George Lamb, on stage to pitch their social venture ideas for the first time.
The Fellows delivered compelling five minute pitches, unpacking their first-hand experiences and the business models they’ve designed to tackle issues like outdated sex education and the lack of mental health support available to young people. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the crowd, we raised over £21,800 for their urgent and important work, alongside pledges of practical expertise including legal support from DLA Piper, sales and SEO support from Forward 3D, and consulting workshops from The Boston Consulting Group.
The evening gave everyone the opportunity to see the impact their donations and pro-bono support will have as our ventures scale up - which is only possible thanks to such a dedicated audience.
