This week Jennie and I attended the fourth Cercul Donatorilor Bruxelles. The annual event, organised by a dedicated team of volunteers from the sizable young professional Romanian community based in Brussels, raises funds for organisations working for social change in Romania. In total, they have raised over €40,000 for 12 projects addressing pressing issues including domestic violence, human rights abuses and environmental degradation.
Furthermore, they’ve inspired members of the Romanian diaspora communities in London (where we have supported two very successful events), Helsinki (first TFN event there on March 1 – it will be conducted in English and non Romanians will be welcome so please share this with any pals there!), Barcelona, Milan and Chicago to establish groups!
We’re very much looking forward to supporting the growth of the first international network of diaspora groups to become a real force for positive social change in Romania and maybe this will inspire other diaspora communities to follow suit! Congratulations to Ioana Traista, Madalina Marcu, Ioana Scaesteanu and Diana Porumboiu who are pictured left to right with me after last week's event and to all those involved in such a successful movement.
