Events & Awards from TFN projects
We have exciting news and events from four of the great projects we’ve supported!
If you’re looking to join a charity’s board of Trustees, Hackney Pirates are looking for a Chair. Funded in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014 at various TFN events, Hackney Pirates works with young people in Hackney to develop their literacy skills and confidence. Read more information if you would like to apply for this position.
Earlier this year, you may remember reading about the TFN team’s day out to Forty Hall Community Vineyard in North London, funded in 2015. We spent a morning with the volunteer team learning how to prune, and our work (or most likely, the volunteers’ work) must have been good because Forty Hall have been shortlisted in two categories at the Urban Food Awards run by the Mayor of London, Borough Market and London Food Link. You can vote for them until 6th July, and if you do, you have a chance of winning two tickets to the awards evening at Borough Market.
The Bike Project is putting on a comedy fundraiser on 29th June, headlined by Nish Kumar. The Bike Project pitched at TFN events in 2014 and 2015, and does great work supporting refugees by fixing unwanted bikes and donating them to refugees, saving them £20 a week on travel. If you like comedy and want to support a brilliant initiative, book a ticket!
Our final piece of good news comes from Orchid Project and Working Chance, which are both committed to supporting women and girls. Orchid Project aims to end female genital cutting through education programmes, while Working Chance works with women ex-offenders and care leavers to help them find quality employment. Funded at various TFN events, both charities are lead by inspirational women, Julia Lalla-Maharajh and Jocelyn Hillman, who have each been awarded an OBE in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours. Here at TFN, we’d like to say a massive congratulations to Julia and Orchid Project, and Jocelyn and Working Chance!
