Albanian crowdfunding affiliate tackles childhood development at second event
Partners Albania for Change and Development, TFN’s international “affiliate” based in Albanian capital, Tirana, have grown from strength to strength in their crowdfunding expertise – raising over three times the anticipated funds for local civil society organisations.
On the 24th June 2021 they hosted their second “giving circle” event, bringing 70 representatives from the business community and other sectors together with philanthropic individuals to raise financial, material and in-kind support for three civil society organisations that are driving social change in Albania.
Over 3 million Albanian Lek (approximately £21,000 pounds) was raised for the following initiatives:
- Little Steps – by Nisma për Ndryshim Shoqëror – are developing a fit-for-purpose playground and educating parents on the importance of play in childhood development to improve the livelihoods of children in Tirana’s impoverished “Lana Bregas” community.
- Thumana Multifunctional Center – by New Vision Organisation – was formed in the immediate aftermath of the November 2019 earthquake and has since worked to bring the community together to deliver essential community services. The centre provides a safe environment where young people can socialise and play, along with an internet corner to facilitate further study.
- The Study Corner – by Qendra Tek Ura – aims to provide suitable study facilities for children living in the impoverished Tufina area of Tirana. The initiative will support 14 families with 3-5 children, through the provision of much needed school supplies and a ‘study corner’ in their own homes. A larger shared 'study corner' will also be provided at a local centre to serve dozens more.
