TFN OXFORD

The third event of TFN - Oxford, on 28th April 2010, raised an excellent total of £22,000. The lovely North Wall Arts Centre was again the setting for the event. Since their first event in 2008 The Funding Network's Oxfordshire outpost has raised a total of £66,900 for diverse projects.

The projects that presented their work on the night were Oxford Food Bank, Chacolinks, Labour behind the Label and Oxford Young Victims of Crime.

The Oxford Foodbank works to reduce food wastage and at the same time alleviate food poverty. It does this by collecting food that has passed its ‘best before’ but not its ‘use by’ date from local supermarkets and redistributing it to Oxford charities that provide meals to those in need. Currently staffed entirely by volunteers, our funds will help scale up the operation tenfold. They received £6800

Labour behind the Label highlights the struggles and demands of the 30 million people (mostly women from developing countries) working in the garment industry, by enabling the garment workers themselves to get their message heard, and by supporting ethical fashion supply chains. Our funds will help support speaker campaigns and research into conditions in a particular Indian town supplying UK fashion stores. They received £4400

Chacolinks supports legal action on behalf of the Wichi, an indigenous people of northern Argentina, to safeguard their endangered land and human rights. It is a small Oxford-based, volunteer-run charity that has already helped secure a moratorium on deforestation and logging in the Wichi territory. Our funds will employ a low-cost Wichi-based legal assistant. They received £4900

Oxfordshire Young Victims of Crime Project supports young people on the receiving end of crime to resume normal life, and not become involved in crime themselves. Learning from the project will also be disseminated nationally. Each £250 raised by us will pay for one young person to be mentored by a specially trained support worker. They recieved £6000
