IAIN MCMULLAN

Iain McMullan joined the Bournemouth University at Director of Development and Alumni Relations in August 2007. The fundraising activity is shortly to become the Bournemouth University Foundation. The current team comprises of 3 fundraising staff, a researcher, admin support and 3 alumni relations staff.


Prior to joining Bournemouth University he worked as an independent consultant in fundraising - McMullan & Co. He provided strategic and operational support on the design, implementation and enhancement of fundraising programmes to education, healthcare and other “not for profit” sectors. Prior to establishing McMullan & Co. he served for two years as Chief Executive of Grenzebach Glier Europe.


From 1992 to 1996, Mr. McMullan was Director of Development at London Business School, where he established fund raising as a sustainable core activity. During his four-year tenure in excess of £20 million was raised from gift support.


From 1988 to 1992, Mr. McMullan served as Director of Development & Alumni Relations at UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology). In this capacity he designed, planned, and implemented a comprehensive fundraising & alumni relations strategy. During his tenure in excess of £7 million was raised from gift support.


Mr. McMullan began his work in the field of philanthropy in 1987, when he joined the Community Charitable Counselling Service of Canada. He served as Associate Director of the Doctors Hospital Development Fund in Toronto, Ontario, where he designed, planned, and implemented both the Medical Staff and Hospital Staff campaigns. The former campaign raised in excess of $1 million.


Mr. McMullan began his professional career in Canada in 1980. He held a number of posts as grain merchant with Cargill Limited, Canada (1980-1986). He was educated at Campbell College, Belfast and the University of Durham (University College). He is a Trustee of The Funding Network and advisor to a variety of charities.
