Bristol
TFN Bristol has held eight funding events since February 2004 and raised over £200,000 for 50 projects. Working in partnership with Quartet Community Foundation, the group is chaired by Helen Wilde. Click here to read an article published in the Bristol Magazine describing TFN ‘as an exciting concept in charitable giving to small projects that has been embraced by philanthropists and companies in Bristol’.
Our 2011 event took place on Thursday 22nd September 2011 at The Mansion House in Clifton, Bristol. There was a terrific atmosphere which made it hugely enjoyable for everyone involved especially newcomers to The Funding Network.
We had a great line up of projects again and the money raised totalled over £22,000, detailed below.
- One 25 now have £4,272 towards kitting out their kitchen and setting up their Lifeskills Centre, enabling them to improve the self esteem and skills of women and support them out of poverty. Thanks to TFN supporters more women will increase their confidence and skills and start to build a life away from the streets.
- £4,580 will provide an enormous amount of support for the farming and cattle raising communities in Mali. Imagine how green the countryside will soon look after the generous donations to Joliba Trust. They will be able to provide training in resource management, tree planting & regeneration, improvement in pastoral & cattle zones and much more with the amount raised.
- Mak-ee, Katie and Holly really showed us what the Hartcliffe & Withywood Teenage Parents Project is all about and how it has helped them individually and as a group. They were given £5,682 towards providing training opportunities so that they and other young parents can improve their skills and education. A project truly run by the teenagers themselves.
- £3,817 of support will enable girls using the Text & Email Support Service provided by Bristol Crisis Service for Women to move onto the next stage and participate in a face-to-face support group. They will be able to come together and share their experiences, hopefully removing some of the stigma attached to self harming.
- So, can you spot a house where trafficked people are being housed? That’s what Unchosen were asking for support for – to increase the general public’s awareness of the signs so victims can be identified and provided with an escape route. The very basic help Unchosen needed was funds to be able to invest in office space so their essential work could continue and they received £3,999!
