ALAN HODSON
I became a Trustee of the Funding Network in June 2008, having joined TFN in 2005. I was a Trustee of Beacon Fellowship and originally met Fred Mulder when he was awarded a Beacon Prize. I love the simplicity and efficiency of the TFN model, and have enjoyed the opportunity to support some really interesting projects.
I spent 20 years working in finance, joining Rowe & Pitman as graduate trainee in 1984 and never changing firms, but surviving a sequence of mergers to eventually become a member of the Group Managing Board of UBS AG. I gave up my executive responsibilities at UBS in Summer 2004 and finally left the firm in June 2005.
My interest in the charitable sector was really sparked when my daughter, Olivia, was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, Olivia died in 1996, and my wife and I founded the Olivia Hodson Fellowship Fund at Great Ormond Street Hospital, in her memory. We are very pleased that the OHFF has funded a number of successful projects relating to childhood cancer, all based at Great Ormond Street and the neighbouring Institute of Child Health. I am very proud to now be the Chairman of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
Having retired from banking, I am lucky to be able to split my time between a number of charitable and business interests, whilst also spending much more time with my family.
