The Funding Evening was held at a beautiful architect-designed surgery in Clerkenwell. The projects were diverse, the presentations an inspiration and a total of £29,461.54 was raised for the following five projects:

  • The Marefat Education Centre, Afghanistan - supports the education of girls already registered at the Marefat School but who are unable to continue due to poverty and the inevitable preference given to male education. The funds raised provided a year's education for up to 75 students.

  • Bretton Woods Project - to develop the publication and dissemination of the 'Update', a respected bimonthly digest, providing a major source of information for people looking for a critical, independent perspective on the World Bank and IMF policy trends and projects. The funds raised enabled the Update through the transition period to a more sustainable future.

  • Peace Brigades International UK - acts as a third party within a given conflict, to bear witness, and by its presence stopping violence from escalating and ensuring that human rights abuses do not go unchecked by the international community. The funds went towards developing their outreach strategy and carrying out a feasibility study (the preliminary stage of a three-year strategy) and a speaker tour.

  • The London Gay Men's Chorus - to empower, support, develop and help the flourishing of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered young people using choral singing as the means to building social capital and deliver social change. TFN's grant went towards funding the hire of space in Islington for a weekly rehearsal and covered the costs for the first six months after which it can then continue to support it's growth.

  • Berega Hospital, Tanzania - aims to provide improved lighting within the hospital by the use of solar power, facilitating and improving the management of patients at night. Funds raised went towards purchasing solar equipment to be installed in key areas of the hospital.
