MAY 27th, 2004
It was a lovely summer evening and the Amwell Practice
in Islington was a great space for the meeting, with small waterfalls and outside
areas within the waiting room. We raised £24,357 and the presentations were
especially moving. With 20 new people attending it seems that evening meetings
are certainly more viable for some than whole Saturdays. The Wild Bunch's report
back was a highlight as evidently the DJ equipment they brought with the TFN
grant is the 'best in London' and on a par with that used at The Ministry
of Sound Nightclub. The event was kindly sponsored by Rathbones Greenbank Investments
- Connect - Runs dynamic and innovative therapy events to improve the
quality of life, confidence, coping and self-management skills of people who
have a communication disability after stroke. They were seeking funds to run
day long events for both people who have had a stroke and their friends and
relatives. www.ukconnect.org
- Ebony Horse Club - The only scheme in the country which exists to
give young people from ethnic minorities a way into this most British of sports.
Expansion of the Brixton based club now rests on being able to transform a
derelict site next to railway arches into a national centre for the inclusion
of ethnic minorities in horse riding. They were raising funds to pay the project
officer's salary until Jan 2005.
- Roma Advocacy - Roma and gypsy women face double discrimination -
as Roma and as women. The International Roma Women's Network(IRWN) unites
women activists from 18 countries and aims to reduce poverty amongst the Roma
women of Europe. The funds raised will be used to strengthen the network through;
email, computer hardware for committee members, preparation of a website and
promotional pack, development of a proactive campaign strategy and work towards
a IRWN National Assembly in late 2004. www.advocacynet.org

extreme injustice & lead the international community in providing access to
treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS. In developing countries people
are dying of Aids because they cannot access the drugs that are helping patients
in the developed live with Aids for up to 20 years. This project sought funds
to pay project officers salaries, produce materials (including campaign cards
and packs) and cover travel expenses for outreach work. www.peopleandplanet.org
