The Funding Evening on January 17th 2008 was hosted by Goldman Sachs and held at their offices on Fleet St. On the evening we raised a total £40,688.61 for the following 5 projects that presented.

  • Happy Child International: The projects mission is the rescue and restoration of street children, and their re-integration in to family and community. Our purpose is to help create a world where every street child can have a childhood, with opportunities of education, of a family and realise their potential. The grant raised by TFN went towards opening a house in Recife Brazil in 2008 to offer refuge for young street girls at risk of prostitution and other threats. This will be alongside our first Recife house opened in 2007, which is for young street boys aged 6-12. www.happychild.org.uk
  • Goodwill & GLI: Indian NGOs are criticized for their lack of accountability, transparency, competency and sustainability. The TFN grant went towards a capacity building programme which significantly aims to enhance Tamilnadu NGO's immediate and long-term ability to deliver effectively and sustainably to the many thousands in dire need that they support. www.goodwillsocialworkcentre.org; www.glinet.org
  • ICRP - Initiatives Communautaires pour la Réduction de la Pauvreté au Burundi: With TFN's grant ICRP aims to combat poverty and promote peace in rural Burundi through income generating farming projects. This effort will be achieved through the following activities: 1) Organising communal keeping of dairy cows 2) Providing goats and poultry to smallholders 3) Husbandry training and veterinary care 4) Peace and reconciliation workshops 5) Encouraging the sharing of resources amongst participating families, i.e. milk, livestock and skills. www.glinet.org/icrp
  • Future in Our Hands Education and Development Fund (FIOH): The FIOH Fund is a UK registered charity (Ref 1047953) with the object to relieve poverty and the causes of poverty in developing countries. FIOH supports sustainable development through our links with indigenous non--governmental organisations (NGO's) and through the establishment of appropriate educational and vocational training programmes. TFN's grant went towards establishing at least 5 school farms / tree planting nurseries in the NW Province of the Cameroon so that children gain environmental awareness of the importance of indigenous species. They will also develop practical knowledge of agro-forestry organic farming methods and related job opportunities. www.fiohnetwork.org.uk
  • READ International: The charity redistributes disused education resources from the UK to the developing world. By making these resources available they are promoting literacy and healthy learning environments. What's more, they are providing opportunities for school children to become educated, empowered and engaged in their local and global community. They work primarily in Tanzania. In the UK they also deliver an extremely successful school presentation programme, explaining the importance of our work and promoting social enterprise, student volunteering, and global citizenship. The grant raised went towards delivering a series of collaborative, student led initiatives to improve access to education across the world and increase youth participation in the global community. www.readinternational.org.uk
