Our seventh Funding Event was held on November 15th. We raised almost £50,000 for the nine presenting charities and many people present commented on the sheer eclecticism of the projects.

  • Appropriate Technologies Asia Aims to improve the health and livelihood of villagers in Qinghai Province, China, by using low cost evaporative coolers to improve food storage techniques. ATA will use the funds to provide 200 coolers and raise awareness about food storage issues. www.atasia.org.uk

  • Antidote Working to produce a video showing how primary teachers can use an approach called 'Philosophy for Children' to develop emotional literacy. The funds raised will be used to analyse video footage recently shot, record music composed by primary school children, and edit a video about 'Philosophy for Children'.

  • Bretton Woods Project -Improving the ability of civil groups to scrutinise European governance of the World Bank and the IMF. They required funds to continue and develop their monthly e-mail communication which aims to connect organisations working in this field, extend their coverage and scope by recruiting more contributors, and ultimately improve scrutiny on the IFI's across Europe.

Funds were needed to adequately source, index and catalogue all the documents in the National University of Rwanda, make a CD-ROM, and archive this information in a suitable institution in the USA.

  • Lango Community Trust Works to assess the capacity of civil organisations in Lira, Uganda, and their abilities to address rural poverty through sustainable approaches. The funds will be used to assess the situation on the ground using questionnaires, visits and analysis of this data.

  • Street Cred Aims to help unemployed women in East London establish their own businesses by providing access to finance, business advice, mentoring and training. Street Cred will use the funds to provide 'post-loan' support to micro-credit entrepreneurs on an individual and group basis.
